Cialis belongs to a class of erectile dysfunction medications called PDE5 inhibitors. The generic name of this medication is Tadalafil.  It is used to treat the condition of impotence in men. Cialis can do so by increasing the blood flow to the penile nerve causing a sufficient erection for a physical intercourse.

The potential benefit of using this ED pill is that it comes in two different dosing forms. The lower doses can be used for daily dosing for a prescribed period. Cialis 20 mg and 10 mg doses are used for longer lasting effects that can last for up to 36 hours. These higher doses should not be used daily.

How does Cialis work in the body?

How does cialis work
Being a PDE5 inhibitor, Cialis can inhibit the production of an enzyme called PDE5 (phosphodiesterase type 5) which is mostly found in men with erectile dysfunction. This enzyme can break down the chemicals called cGMP (cyclic guanosine monophosphate) essential for relaxing the muscles around the penile blood vessels.

Along with sexual stimulation that releases nitric oxide, there is a conversion of GTP (guanosine triphosphate) molecule to cGMP.  Cialis can stop the PDE5 enzyme from degrading the cGMP chemicals. This allows the relaxation of the muscles around the blood vessels. The blood flows freely to the erectile tissue called corpus cavernosum, making it firm. This is how an erection is obtained in men with erectile dysfunction.

What is the half life of Cialis?

The half life of a medication is the period after which the effects fall half of its peak concentrations.
